Gökyüzü is a Turkish restaurant, that opened its third branch in the heart of Walthamstow. Anyone who’s lived knows Walthamstow like I do knows how much its changed over the past few years, with many restaurants popping up, it’s becoming a place where people actually want to go to …
Turkish cuisine is one of my favourites so I was looking forward to seeing how Gökyüzü measured up to the legendary Kervan Sofrasi (if you know, you know). If you’ve been to a Turkish restaurant before, you’d know that they tend to serve this basket of bread, which is usually complimentary (if it’s not, leave and go here instead). I’m not sure what addictive substance they put in the dough but I’m so here for it because it’s the besy. I always end up eating way more than I should go while waiting for the main and of course, this time was no different. I ate 7 pieces (yes I counted) with the tzatziki dip it came with and was nearly full by the time the main came
I was with my parents, so we ordered the Full Platter to share. At the time, I was thinking we would need the Jumbo Platter which was larger, but luckily we saw another table had ordered the same, and it looked like more than enough! The different meats were so juicy, and I really enjoyed the bulgur which had a tomato flavour. And just when I thought I had enough bread, they put some more on the platter, soaked. in. meat. juices.
We also ordered some prawns, which were really good. They tasted so fresh, which reminded me of lobster.
With the main, we got a complimentary salad, which also tasted so fresh. After eating all of the meat and carbs, we needed something healthy to balance it out.
Overall, I really enjoyed Gökyüzü, everything tasted so fresh and delicious, and the service was good. It’s has definitely becoming one of my favourite Turkish restaurants (maybe even better than Kervan).
